Another Environmentally Friendly Design from Project Services

Project Services has added another environmentally friendly office complex to their achievements portfolio with the team on the Sunshine Coast successfully completing a new office accommodation building for the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F).

The $2.2 million regional headquarters for the DPI&F took 12 months to construct and although it is not a certified Green Star building, components of its design made use of the Green Star rating tool.

The building has a large number of sustainable initiatives which include specifications for the reduction of operational energy and water consumption.

In comparison to a standard Building Act Compliant structure, it is anticipated that the annual operational savings on the new DPI&F building will be between 15 and 20 per cent on energy, and an impressive 50 per cent on water.

A range of systems will help minimize the building’s energy use through features such as occupant access control of ventilation, lighting levels and glare, and translucent cladding that will allow natural light to be transmitted into the interior.

Project Services’ environmental initiatives exceeded the energy and water targets set by the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries during the design stage of the project, and will significantly improve the working environment for the building’s occupants throughout its operation.

Project Services Hands Over Tennis Centre

The new $82 million Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson opened its doors to enthusiastic crowds for the first time in January, hosting the inaugural Brisbane International tennis tournament.

Project Services acted as the State’s Representative for the project and handed the completed tennis centre over to the Department of Sport and Recreation in December 2008.

The venue was built by Mirvac Constructions (Queensland) Pty Ltd and was designed by HOK Sports Architecture, the firm behind the creation of the award winning Suncorp and Skilled Park Stadiums, both of which were also projects managed by Project Services.

The key aspect of the project was to develop a new world class international tennis centre to enable the successful promotion and development of tennis in Queensland.

The Tennis Centre features state of the art facilities and includes 17 hard courts, 4 clay courts, 2 grass courts, and has a centre court that can seat approximately 5,500 spectators plus 20 corporate suites accommodating up to 12 people in each.

The complex has a one-of-a-kind acoustically responsive roof that sits over the top of centre court to protect both players and spectators from the sun, and there is a one million litre water tank underneath the venue allowing water to be captured and re-used for irrigation and court wash down purposes.

The Queensland Tennis Centre will allow a variety of major international and domestic tournaments to return to the Sunshine State after a 10 year void with such events sidelined due to the closure of the former Milton facility in 1999.
