Equal Opportunity Policy

The Equal Opportunity in Public Employment Act provides for equal opportunity employment in the Public Sector.

The Act enables members of target groups to compete for recruitment, selection and transfer in the agency and within other agencies as effectively as people who are not members of target groups.

Recruitment, selection, promotion and transfer are dealt with on the basis of merit without regard to race, age, sex, relationship status or any other factor not applicable to their position. Employees are valued according to how they perform their duties and on their ability to maintain company standards of service.

Under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, discrimination, victimisation and vilification are illegal.

Discrimination in employment on the following grounds or attributes is against the law under the Act:

  • Sex
  • Relationship status
  • Pregnancy
  • Parental status
  • Age

  • Impairment
  • Religious beliefs or activities
